AppearanceRabastan has dark brown hair but depending on the light it can appear black, he is pale-skinned with icy blue eyes, and he stands around 5’3, much shorter than his older brother and the rest of his family.He sometimes wears black but on occasion depending on his mood, he wears colours much to his brother's disgust. the Favourite colour Rabastan likes to wear is purple.He wears a ring, resembling the Lestrange family crest, which he wears on the ring finger of his right hand. The ring colour is black with the family crest being surrounded by green and silver gems. He wears a second ring on the little finger of his left hand, which is a concealed version of the blood pact that he and Rodolphus made. He also wears an earring, which he does not wear around Rodolphus. Though on occasion he does slip up and wear it around him.He wears one necklace which he can’t and won’t ever take off due to making a blood pact with his older brother because of an incident which took place. Though, whenever there is a family gathering he does take it off.He has a scar on his left hand from the blood pact as he used his left hand to create it. He also has a scar on the left side of his face from an attack from his father. The right side of his face is scarred and burnt from angering Voldemort.He is never seen without his black cat, Lucifer, who is classed as his therapy/emotional support cat.
PersonalityRabastan’s personality can be quite dark (He lashes out and gets violent) at times depending on his mood, he can also be quite unpredictable in his actions, He sometimes tends to talk to himself.He is shown to suffer from schizophrenia and his mind, though he is an adult, is still very much a child. This is due to the childhood trauma and abuse that he went through from a very young age.He is quite protective of his older brother and will not hesitate to hurt anyone who tries to make his brother feel unsafe. He can be closed off and can shut down at times around other people, the only time he is not is when he is around Rodolphus.Though he is never scared of Rodolphus, sometimes when it comes to himself and his health to the point where Rodolphus gets angry or worried about it, Rabastan does get scared.He is very much a ‘mummy's boy' and tends to avoid his father at any cost. He tends to forget about the medication which he is meant to take, which in turn causes his violent outbursts and unpredictability. Rodolphus has to remind him to take the medication.Rabastan is classed as the ‘Yang’ side of Yin and Yang whereas his brother is ‘Yin’. They are stronger together, not apart and he is classed as the emotional manipulator of the two brothers as he can sense what people are feeling and what makes them tick so he uses that to his advantage when torturing his victims.
Backstory
Rabastan is the second and final-born son of Rosalina (can change mother) and Reinhard Lestrange and the younger brother of Rodolphus. He was born in Paris, France on the 31st of October 1964.He is multilingual, due to his mother being from France and his father being from Germany. He can speak French, German and English fluently.When he was younger, Rabastan was abused by his father and was deemed a 'mistake' by most of his family. He was locked in the basement by his father for most of his childhood and suffered multiple childhood trauma which caused him to develop schizophrenia and PTSD. While he was locked in the basement, he was close to death and became one of Hades' lost souls. He kept diary entries, some being quite dark and upsetting. He never showed anyone these entries and still to this day keeps them hidden away from his family and friends, in fear that they would find them and question him about it.He was quite closed off as a child and wasn't as close to Rodolphus as he is now. Growing up, Rodolphus was made to look after and care for him as their parents were away quite often but because Rodolphus was in school, he had a nanny look after him. The nanny ended up being Scottish, and Rabastan ended up picking up the accent which he switches into when he is angry or stressed along with speaking his native tongue (French.)Growing up he was quite skilled with wandless and wordless magic, but due to the trauma and abuse, he shut himself off from that side of himself and opted for using a wand instead, because of this he ended up forgetting that he could do wandless and wordless magic, so he is currently re-learning that part of him with Rodolphus' help, Though because he ended up losing that part of him, his Legilimency and Occlumency powers became stronger.When he turned 11, he got his letter to Hogwarts, and upon arriving for the ceremony, he was instantly sorted into Slytherin, where his older brother had been. He joined along with Barty Crouch JR and Regulus Black.All through his time at Hogwarts, he was bullied which he never told his big brother who had graduated years before. He didn't have many friends during his time there and the friends he did have were loyal to him and kept him safe.When he later graduated from Hogwarts, he had his graduation party in France, He was upset that Rodolphus wasn't there to witness his graduation or celebrate his graduation with him. Though to his surprise, Rodolphus came back from Germany to see his graduation.He and Rodolphus weren't always Death Eaters, it was the night of Rabastan's graduation party that Voldemort came to visit them and they became Death Eaters.When he tortured Frank and Alice Longbottom with Barty Crouch Jr, Bellatrix Lestrange, and Rodolphus Lestrange, he worked alongside his brother, using his Legilimency powers to access their minds and allow Rodolphus to break them with the cruciatius curse.At one stage in his life, his mental health and medical issues ended up getting the best of him and he hurt Rodolphus when he tried to help him. After coming out of the episode, he panicked at the fact that he had hurt his big brother so he shut himself off and locked himself in the bedroom. Rodolphus came to visit him outside the room and they discussed some things and ended up creating a blood pact, promising each other that they would never cause each other harm again and would always be there for each other when they got to a dark part in their life. The blood pact caused Rabastan to have a scar on his left hand which is still visible.During the Battle of the Department of Mysteries between Dumbledore's army and the death eaters, Rabastan was tasked with Crabbe to follow the Army only to be sent flying backward by a spell sent his way by Luna Lovegood after he punched her in the face. He was sent flying backwards once again by Ginny Weasley for a second time.After recovering he and Crabbe pursued Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Neville Longbottom into the Time Chamber. He participated in the Battle of the Seven Potters and helped his brother duel Nymphadora Tonks.During the Battle of Hogwarts, he was the only one along with his brother that didn't run away from the fight, he stayed and fought alongside Voldemort and his brother up until the Dark Lord's defeat.Before he was caught, he and Rodolphus returned home where Tom's diary was kept in Rabastan's drawer after taking it from Lucius after he had accidently freed Dobby. During this time unknowing to them, Voldermort's younger self had planned his return to fix History from what his past self had done. Since the diary was in Rabastan's possesion, Tom appeared to Rabastan first as Rabastan was more innocent and trustworthy so he was more capable of showing himself to Rabastan.Eventually, he was caught by the Aurors and sent back to Azkaban, where he would continue his sentence. At the end of his sentence, both he and his brother ended up losing their life together as they couldn't live on without each other.
Headcanons
1/ During his time in Azkaban, the Aurors took Rabastan to the torture chamber and ended up using crucio on him to the point of nearly incapacitating him but Rodolphus, not knowing what was happening, ends up distracting them and subconsciously saving Rabastan in the process.2/ When he was younger, he promised Rodolphus that he would do anything for him and even die for his brother.3/ Rabastan doesn't trust anyone unless his big brother trusts them first and mainly stops by his brother's side.4/ His brother, mother, and pet cat can break him out of his insanity state. If anyone else tries to break him out of it the insanity kicks in more and incapacitates him for a few minutes.5/ Rabastan's pet cat Lucifer is a mix of a therapy/medical alert cat for him.
6/ Rabastan doesn't know how to do wandless magic, but Rodolphus has been teaching him and the first time he uses it is to protect his big brother.
7/ Both him and Rodolphus both die together at the same time, while locked up in Azkaban, their mother asking for them to go together.Their last words were ____8/ He values Rodolphus' life more than his own. He would sacrifice himself for his brother.9/ During one of his episodes he ends up casting Crucio on Rodolphus as he tries to help him. Regretting what he did he closes himself off. After both he and Rodolphus create blood pacts to say that they will never hurt each other again and will care for each other always.10/ The voices he hears tend to mimic the voices of those he trusts and values the most, so he listens and trusts them, believing it is the actual people he is hearing. The voices tend to mimic his mother, Rodolphus, Regulus, Severus, Barty, Evan, and the Dark Lord.
11/ Even though he is a death eater and not afraid of many things...Rabastan is deathly afraid of spiders and will burn any he sees. He once set fire to his room. So please keep spiders away from him.12/ Rabastan is the more emotional manipulator whereas Rodolphus is the physical manipulator. Together they are unstoppable and the most notorious brothers in the wizarding world.13/ Rabastan's dominant hand is his left and when he made the blood pact with Rodolphus he used his dominant hand to make it and now he has a permanent scar on his left hand.14/ Rabastan was never actually wanted. He was just a 'backup' plan in case anything happened to Rodolphus.
15/ When Rodolphus isn't around or when Rabastan can't find him, he ends up harming himself because he can't cope, and he gets stressed to the point where his mind breaks.16/ Rabastan can sing quite well and play the piano, but he doesn't ever sing in front of others and doesn't play in front of others. He likes to do it in his own time, away from others.17/ When Rabastan was younger, Rodolphus had to look after him, but he was still in school, so a nanny was hired to take care of Rabastan during this time, unfortunately, the nanny was Scottish and Rabastan ended up picking up the accent which he sometimes ends up switching into.18/ At a young age Rabastan could, in fact, do wandless/wordless magic but due to the trauma and the way he was treated he ended up forgetting how to do it all and had to use his wand.19/ Related to HC no. 1 - if Rabastan has the crucio spell used on him one more time, his mind will snap, and he will end up like Frank and Alice Longbottom.
20/ Rabastan is the shortest of the Lestranges.21/ Rabastan is sadly unable to see any ghosts, including the ones at Hogwarts. Though he can see Peeves that is due to his excitement and hyperness.22/ Another of Rabastan's nicknames given to him and mainly used by Rodolphus is 'Meerkat'. This is due to Rabastan only being short and having to stand up tall to reach and view things.23/ Rabastan has 25 jars of tongues with names which he collects from his victims.
24/ Without Rodolphus, Rabastan is easily manipulated which is why he is always with his brother.
